Reservoir Analysis
GXStat offers image analysis-based reservoir analysis. This includes the following services:
1) Petrographic Image Analysis (PIA) - A thin section based procedure to extend the correlation of permeability and similar data beyond the Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) data to additional samples within an area. Binary images representing the pores/porels observed in the thin section are created (created in-house or using external digitizing services offering whole thin section digitizing), these are used for the starting point of a series of programs that quantifies the information in the images (program POREL) through the optimization of the data (program HISTO) and finally to the multivariate analysis of the optimized data (programs Polytopic Vector Analysis - PVA, Regression Function Analysis - RFA and the final program used to predict the various reservoir properties - PNA). This service has been applied successfully for tight sandstones and similar rocks.
2) Given the binary images described above, specialized analyses can
be performed, such as quantitative bioturbation measurement, spectra
of porel perimeter/area ratios, bending energy and smooth-rough
shape geometry. Specialized variables can be relatively easily added
should the customer need them.
3) Given our background in image analysis of thin sections and other
rock samples, specialized image-based procedures can be initiated to
solve the customer's needs. These may include looking at specific
minerals, fractures or even the shape of the individual grains. Information relating image information to reservoir quality has been
successful in many circumstances.
